Real-world credit, routed through Sky's stablecoin layer.

Today River is announcing a partnership with Sky, the protocol evolved from Maker and the issuer of USDS. The arrangement is straightforward: River's institutional credit facilities will settle on Sky's stablecoin rails, while borrowers continue to draw and repay in fiat through the banking relationships they already have. The mechanics change underneath; the interface above does not.
In practice, a borrower requests a draw in dollars and receives dollars. Behind the scenes, the facility is funded and reconciled in USDS, with on-chain settlement providing a continuous, auditable record of principal, interest, and covenant state. Repayments move back through the same rail. Allocators see positions and cashflows in real time; originators keep their existing servicing workflow. The stablecoin is infrastructure, not product.
“Borrowers draw in fiat. The ledger clears in USDS. Nothing about the credit agreement changes — only what it runs on.”
Why Sky
USDS was designed with real-world assets in mind rather than retrofitted for them. Sky's Star Agents program is already directing protocol capital toward regulated, real-economy exposures, and the rail is permissioned at the layers where institutions require it — KYC, transfer controls, allocator whitelists — without foreclosing composability elsewhere. Alternatives either treat RWAs as a side quest or require giving up the settlement guarantees that make on-chain worth the trouble in the first place. Sky does neither.
For allocators, the partnership means three things. First, a settlement layer purpose-built for credit, with transparent reserves and a governance process that has operated through multiple market cycles. Second, position-level reporting that does not depend on a quarterly PDF. Third, a counterparty stack — River as originator and servicer, Sky as the stablecoin issuer — where each party does what it is good at and neither pretends to do the other's job.
The first facilities on the joint rail are expected to go live in the coming weeks. Allocators and originators interested in diligence materials, including the legal structure, settlement flow, and reporting spec, can contact partnerships@river.credit. A longer technical note will be published alongside the first live facility.
